Y'2 Leather Iron Tanned Horse 60's Jean Jacket Black
Y'2 Leather are based in Osaka, Japan, and have been in the leather jacket making game for close to fifty years. Specialising in horse, cow & deer hides, they make some exceptional jackets, all handmade in their Osaka studio.
In addition to its renowned leather craftsmanship, Y’2 brings a strong sense of creativity and a deep respect for vintage design. This horsehide leather jacket takes its cue from the Wrangler 24MJZ, one of the brand’s most distinctive styles from the 1960s, recreated here with an exceptional level of detail and character.
The original 24MJZ was defined by its four-pocket front and zip closure, an innovative design at the time that set it apart from traditional denim jackets. In recent years, the style has seen a resurgence, reappearing in film and bringing this distinctive silhouette back into focus.
Y'2's version uses a custom Iron Tanned Horsehide, developed in pursuit of a depth of black that dye alone cannot achieve. Starting with full vegetable-tanned horsehide, the leather is first dyed and then layered with pigment, creating a rich, complex finish with real depth.
To enhance character, the hides undergo a milling process, softening the texture and bringing out a more natural grain. Originally around 2mm thick, the leather is then split to approximately 1.3mm, improving suppleness and wearability without sacrificing durability.
The jacket features two chest pockets with snap button closures, with the left finished with a pen slot. Two lower slash pockets offer additional storage, while the jacket is closed with a top snap closure and a custom nickel zipper fastening. Front pleats are reinforced with rounded nickel bar tacks, adding both strength and subtle detailing. Inside, an interior pocket adds further functionality, while a cotton/linen lining through the body and nylon-lined sleeves ensure a comfortable, easy fit.
